August exhaustion
I know I haven't posted anything in approximately forever, but I've had a crazy week that I thought I should share. Maybe that way someone will at least get a laugh out of it.
So I was scheduled to move into a new apartment on the 1st. I spent the weekend (and Monday and Tuesday) before that helping A move his stuff, so I was already exhausted. Then I went to pick up my keys and found that the people who were moving out of my apartment (and into the one downstairs) hadn't moved any of their stuff. The apartment looked like their stuff had exploded all over and I couldn't even get down the hallway to the two bedrooms. Fine. I wasn't planning on moving my stuff in on the 1st anyway. I could keep my clothes in my car for another day. Well, that day became two, then three. Friday night at 8 when I checked the apartment their stuff was still in one room and they hadn't done any cleaning. So I cancelled my truck for the next day. And then wasn't able to get a truck for Sunday when they finally did get all their crap moved downstairs. So that already had me in a bad mood. Added to that, I'm apparently operating under some kind of curse. Here are the other things that happened to me in the last three days:
1. Shut my trunk with my bike rack still on it and clubbed myself in the head.
2. A can of soda from the 6-pack I bought for the friends who were helping me move exploded all over the driver's seat of my car. And then I cut my hand on the jagged edges of the can. Plus I had to sit in the soda because I didn't have a towel in the car.
3. Turning off of Prairie onto Springfield on the way to the UHaul, I took the corner a little too tight and brushed my back passenger side wheel on the sewer grate. And my tire popped. Totally, irreparably flat.
But, I apparently have an equal amount of good luck. When I pulled into a random parking lot to change my tire, it turned out to be right across the street from an auto body shop, and a guy appeared out of nowhere, jacked my car up and had my spare on in about 5 minutes. And this morning when I went to Sears to get a new tire it was covered under some kind of warranty, so I only ended up paying $20 for the labor. And my landlord is letting me pay for only three weeks this month, so I don't have to pay for the time I couldn't actually use the apartment.
And the best news of all is that my stuff is finally in my apartment and ready to be put away. In spite of the stiflingly blanket-like humidity and the rivers of sweat, it's done! And thank goodness for the friends I have who are still in town and helped. They are all rock stars.
