Humuhumunukunukuapua'a
Hey there. I can't imagine anyone who isn't subscribed to this blog in an RSS reader is still reading, because it's been so long since my last post. But anyway, thought I might write in with a little update just in case...
Mostly I haven't been writing because the big question -- the job search, still remains unsettled. I've had 3 good nibbles in the past week or so, though: one in Austin, one in Chicago, and one in Colorado. Send good luck vibes my way that I get at least one of them, ok?
So what else have I been up to? Well, The Aussie and I head to Boltini's almost every Tuesday to play Bingo, and I'm saying right now that Bingo and bars are a combination that should happen more often. I'm still holding strong on an approximately six week long losing streak, but have still managed to get a rubber ducky key chain, a pirate yoyo, and a devil necklace. Makes you want to stop by and join us, doesn't it?
It's a little bit like having our own personal Cheers too. As a matter of fact, when I was in Hawaii (what?!) on vacation a couple of weeks ago the host got the entire bar to say hi to me via The Aussie's cell phone. (I'd also like to note that the Aussie got Bingo as I was talking to him, so my losing streak doesn't taint those around me.)
Um, yeah, so Hawaii, right? Well, my friend Dr. T decided she needed a beachy sort of break, and booked herself on a flight out to Oahu for 3 days. I checked my frequent flyer miles and realized I could go with for a reasonable portion of mileage plus $60. Frankly, it would have been stupid not to go. So for a week, I got to forget about the job search completely, do beachy things like eat fresh-caught shrimp and drink mai tais, and bask in the sun (well covered by SPF 30). For future reference, the amount of time a fantastic beach vacation will stave off the ennui and depression of an extended job search is approximately two weeks.
Good thing we go out to Colorado in two days for the wedding of the Storyteller and Mr. Rock Climber followed by 4 days of hiking. Time to test the effectiveness of elevation.
