Really, I can't describe this room any better than the Family Circle Home Decorating Guide already did.

Because I know the first thing I think of when designing my living room is whether it's ideal for alert listening. Also, I would have to assume that when this was written egregious wasn't exclusively a synonym for "conspicuously bad." Then again, looking at this room, maybe the author knew exactly what she meant to say.
